Daniëlle van de Donk hints, again, at retirement from the national squad.
Daniëlle van de Donk seems likely to end her international career after the 2025 European Championship. The 32-year-old announced this on Monday afternoon at the press conference before the match against Finland.
On Tuesday evening, Lieke Martens will play her last match for the Oranje Leeuwinnen, after which Van de Donk also addressed a possible farewell. "I am 32, it will happen to me at some point too," she said, as quoted by NU.nl. "I still feel good, and I still have the European Championship in my mind. I think I will have had a very beautiful career. It’s on my mind to stop after that."
Van de Donk emphasized that nothing is set in stone yet. "The door is still a bit open, I can't fully say that I will stop then. But it does give me some peace," said the Olympique Lyon player. "I also want to keep my honor intact. I want to retire at a high level and not let it go downhill."
